Teen Charged With Striking Officer In East Williston

An East Williston man was arrested Sunday after allegedly acting belligerent and striking an officer.

Cops say officers responded to an assignment Sunday at 12:55 a.m. for a disorderly person on Meritoria Drive to find 17-year-old Brian Engbarth, of East Williston walking in the middle of the road, acting belligerent and making obscene gestures. Engbarth was stopped and reportedly became increasingly agitated. He reportedly struck struck an officer on the side of his face before running off.

A foot pursuit led cops to School Street, where they say officers struggled to arrest Engbarth, who refused to be handcuffed while flailing his arms and kicking at them.

The defendant was eventually placed into custody and charged with Assault, Resisting Arrest and Disorderly Conduct. He was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday, March 18.

The officer struck in the face by Engbarth was treated for an injured jaw and contusion to the face at a local hospital. He was later released.
