Van Engulfed In Flames Spreads Fire To Garden City Dunkin Donuts

Early Sunday, a van became engulfed in flames in Garden City and spread to a nearby Dunkin Donuts Sunday.

According to Nassau County Police, at 8:42 a.m., a 52-year-old man was driving a company owned 2004 Chevrolet van when he began to smell electrical burning inside the vehicle. The driver was unable to find where the smell was coming from and stopped at a Dunkin Donuts located at 2458 Jericho Turnpike. He returned to the van to find the interior dashboard and the front seat engulfed in flames and immediately alerted the workers in the Dunkin Donuts. All 15 people including workers and customers evacuated the store and the fire department was called.

The fire eventually spread to the exterior of the Dunkin Donuts and was later extinguished by firefighters.

One firefighter sustained an injury due to a fall, but refused medical attention at the scene.

According to officials, the fire has been deemed accidental.
