Top 10 Tuesday: Long Island Bands

Top10Tues1

For some of us, our iPods hold a special place in our hearts, but really it’s because they hold all of our favorite songs.

We here at Top 10 Tuesday thought it would be appropriate, as the weather becomes warmer and most of us begin lacing up and heading out to the streets in an effort to get our bodies beach-ready, to share the Top 10 Long Island Bands we’ll be listening to.

Oh, so you didn’t know we had any famous musical residents besides Billy Joel? Well, you’re wrong, and we’re here to help.

“Keep the noise low, she doesn’t wanna blow it, shaking head to toe while your left hand does ‘the show me around.'”

“Open the gate to your apartment complex, you’re not getting off that easily, I climb the fence, the one that you’ve been sitting on, how long before I’m just a memory?”

Remember these songs, lyrics, the people who sang them? Guess what? They’re all Long Islanders! And we couldn’t be more proud to call them all neighbors.

OK, still not sure what bands call the beautiful fish-shaped island home? What about this one…

“I saw him dancing there by the record machine, I knew he must a been about 17, the beat was going strong, playing my favorite song.”

Yep, she lived on Long Island too. In recent years, she was even inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame.
