The Long Island Volunteer Center has teamed up with Nassau Community College Marketing & Fashion students to collect new and gently-used prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses and accessories for the 18th Annual Prom Boutique.
All dresses and accessories collected will be distributed to girls of families across Long Island who cannot afford a new gown for a special event event.
The Long Island Volunteer Center website says High school guidance counselors, at-risk youth agencies, group homes, and church outreaches make the program available to their constituents.
Prom Boutique is a former activity of the Junior League of Long Island which continues to be actively involved and was added 13 years ago to the array of Long Island Volunteer Center community service projects.
Just last year, over 1,300 girls from 65 different schools across Long Island benefited from the collection.
