Stutzman Funeral Home Dodgers Vs. Dr. Barbaro, DPM Cardinals
The Stutzman Funeral Home Dodgers played their second game against the Cardinals this week on a soggy Saturday morning and all had wet feet. But the weather didn’t dampen the spirit of these young ballplayers. After a round of instructional drills, the ever-optimistic Dodgers took to the field. Gia Campagnuolo and Myles Brown had a fantastic day and fielded the ball very well. Aedan Cotter and Thomas Slaski hit the ball extremely hard off of the tee. Michael Duda ran the bases quickly after hitting the ball solidly up the middle. Cooper Sang had a few good plays in his debut at first base and both Ethan Goldberg and Jeremy Chuck made impressive fielding assists to help the team. Nicholas Gregory fielded a groundball with ease and threw the ball to first base. Young Ryan Louie once again showed his potential to hit the ball hard each time at bat. The Dodger team had another great match with the Cardinals. The morning was just another step toward learning how to play good ball and the Dodger players sure made this step a giant one. All the players look forward to next week’s ballgame.
Dominick’s Italian/American Deli Diamondbacks Vs. Virgilio Chiropractic and Wellness Center Rangers
Practice makes perfect and the Dbacks hard work paid off with a shutout win over the Rangers. Marc Baronci pitched solid today throwing heat and fooling batters with an effective change-up. No one works harder than Lihan Nihan and his hard work paid off as he pitched a scoreless inning and he helped his cause with an unassisted double play. Garret Roth made his second start of the season and only allowed one base runner. Cenzo Montoni had another outstanding game as he faced six batters and struck out all six. Mathew Merolla completed the shutout with lights out pitching in his role as closer. The offense was propelled by Thomas Rubinic who went 3 for 3 with 1 RBI, Jackson Benjamin 2 for 3 with 2 RBI, Brandon Colon 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s, Anthony Steves 2 for 3 and 1 RBI, Matthew Rubinic 1 for 3 and 1 RBI, and Nicholas Rubinic 1 for 2 with 1 RBI. The team dedicated the win to Michael Campagnoulo who will not be able to play with the team due to an unfortunate injury.
St. John’s University Rockies Vs. Costello’s Ace Hardware Phillies
The Rockies faced a tough Phillies team, but kept their heads in the game throughout and kept fighting. Danny McClellan battled through a tough first inning to limit the other team’s scoring opportunities. He was helped by a nice play from Paul DePaulis in the field on a tricky pop-up behind shortstop. Alan Birnbaum played heads up all day, and had several great at bats. Jeremy Wong had a few good at bats too and came through with a nice hit. In the third Chris Gould pitched well in his first outing of the season throwing to his battery mate Gavin Borduas who did a nice job behind the plate. Stephen Perno got robbed a couple of times on nice plays by the other team on hard hit balls. In the fourth, Eli Goldberger did a great job throwing strikes to limit the damage and get the team moving in the right direction while Frankie Sannuti played great behind the plate. He also came through with a clutch hit. Matt Strocchia came in the fifth to shut the other team down and close out the game well for the Rockies. Way to keep fighting Rockies!
Baxter’s BOLTS (16) Vs. HBQVB (5)
Baxter’s BOLTS continue the dominating pitching with Daniella Connor and Jillian Cooper pitching 4 strong innings and Lauren “Lights Out” Wasserman pitching like Mariano Rivera for the save. Sarah Bush hit a big double to score 2 runs and played great behind the plate. Maggie Cullimore scored 2 big runs, Lauren Wasserman had a big double scoring 2 runs. Samantha Grenard continued her hot hitting with a single and a double and scoring 2 runs. CeCe Schnall had a put out at home plate with a girl trying to steal home. Kaitlyn Stoyer walked and scored a run. Catie Gray walked twice and scored a run and played a great second base. Amber Roggendorf walked once and scored a big run. Amber also had some nice plays at third base. Gabby Ranieri walked twice and scored 2 big runs and played first base for the first time this season. Lauren Valencia had a walk and scored a run.
Hand-Rolled Bagels Padres Vs. Adelphi University Twins
The Hand Rolled Bagels Padres continued their heavy-hitting ways on Friday night with a matchup against the Adelphi University Twins. Marco Gullo and Stephen Coffey led the hit parade with a 4 for 4 night each. Not to be outdone, Joe Mattei, Vincent Pepe, Joe Montoni and Christian Flynn ensured the scoreboard operator earned his pay by adding 3 hits apiece. Michael O’Grady and Joe Vieni were launching rockets off of their bats and contributed some great defense. Last but in no way least, Andrew Stein, Sanay Shah, and Andrew Kern flashed some leather and hustled around the field like wild men, prompting coaches to inquire about bottling up this enthusiastic energy and giving it out before all games.
Modell’s Sporting Goods Braves Vs. Hand-Rolled Bagels Padres
A last minute change of venue (and a malfunctioning pitcher) could not stop the Hand-Rolled Bagels Padres from rolling on against the Modell’s Sporting Goods Braves. After a slow start, they came alive with a 4 run fourth inning. Joe Montoni, Marco Gullo, Andrew Kern and Sanay Shah all had clutch hits to bring the team back into the game. Then the defense went into shutdown mode. Christian Flynn, Joe Vieni, and Michael O’Grady stopped everything that came their way, and Andrew Stein covered second base like a blanket, cutting off the entire middle of the diamond for the Braves’ batters. Once Vincent Pepe flew around the bases to score the seventh run, the Padres’ bench doused him with a Yoohoo shower (they had finished all the Gatorade) and game number four was complete. The boys continue their season with a rematch against the Dodgers on Friday.
Newman Orthodontics Dodgers Vs. Hand-Rolled Bagels Padres
The Hand Rolled Bagels Padres arrived at Manor Oaks Friday night with a sole purpose- to stop every ball that came their way (well, that and to score as many runs as possible). The Newman Orthodontics Dodgers’ big bats proved a worthwhile opponent. Vincent Pepe, Stephen Coffey, and Sanay Shah each ensured that they’d secured a place on that evening’s Web Gems reel with game-saving plays. Andrew Kern and Joe Mattei bought into the shutdown defense mentality by stopping everything the Dodgers hit in their vicinity. Not to be outdone, Christian Flynn, Marco Gullo and Michael O’Grady played flawlessly in the field, and each was perfect at the plate, all going 4 for 4. Joe Vieni, Andrew Stein and Joe Montoni all contributed with clutch hits that rocketed off their bats. Overall, the best effort by the Padres to date.
Chico’s Bail Bonds Cubs Vs. Adelphi University Twins
It was a beautiful day Saturday for baseball and the Cubs came to play. With only six players the cubs put on a hitting and fielding exhibition. Jack Kareff and James Asmus both hit doubles and Brendan Cooper went four for four. Hitting stars also included Eric Lee, Alex Isopo and Jordan Mayorga with a great hit up the middle. The Cubs defense was tight with Jack Kareff and Brendan Cooper combining for a double play and a great game by James Asmus at first base. Great fielding was also provided by Jordan Mayorga at second base, Alex Isopo behind the plate, and Eric Lee at third base. The Twins played an excellent game as well and both teams will meet again later in the season.
Newman Orthodontics Dodgers Vs. Modell’s Sporting Goods Brave
It was a beautiful day for baseball at Manor Oaks Stadium when the Braves took the field against the mighty Dodgers for an epic rematch. Leading the Braves offense was Kenny Hirchfeld with 5 hits. Also contributing to the offensive attack was Christopher Chin, Ryan Wasserman, Alan Sikora and Edward Mauceri with 4 hits each. Ryan powered the offense with 2 RBI doubles. Christian Sikiric, Anthony Levia and Brian O’Conner also had some great at bats. The defense was led by Christopher, Ryan and Kenny who were like gold gloves out in the field. The play of the game was when Ryan caught a laser beam line drive off the bat of a Dodger slugger. Edward also had a great game behind home plate. Kenny made a great scoop on a one hope throw at first. The Braves continue to show great teamwork and coach Ken and I our very proud of how well the boys are playing. The Dodgers also played a great game and had some very good plays in the field.
Salmon Limousine Services Ducks 3 Vs. Hillside Beverage Cyclones 2
After a lengthy layoff due to rainouts, the Ducks played their best game of the year in a thrilling 3-2 victory over the super Cyclones. The Ducks jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead thanks to a leadoff hit by Mikey Rose and a run-scoring triple by Eric Del Valle (who later scored on a fielder’s choice). Normally a 2-run lead is not much of a safe lead, but tonight it was due to the shutdown pitching of Joey Jacobs and Eric Del Valle. Joey hurled 4 innings of no-hit ball (5 Ks, 2 BBs, 2 Runs, 0 Earned Runs) followed by Eric Del Valle with 2 nearly perfect innings (seven batters faced — 6 Ks, 1 infield hit). The Cyclones’ only two runs of the game scored on a passed ball and an errant throw on a steal attempt. After the Ducks had taken the early 2-0 lead, the Cyclones closed the gap to 2-1 in the bottom of the second But the Ducks got that run right back in the top of the third thanks to a lead-off hit from Eric Del Valle, who advanced to third on steals and scored on a hit from Nick Femia. While the Cyclones later again closed the lead to one run, the Ducks never gave up the lead. The Ducks’ defense was superb all night, highlighted by plays from Brian Volk (throwing out a runner from short while on his knees), Nick Femia (saving outs with a slick glove at first), Eric Del Valle (stabbing a hot shot at third and throwing out the runner at first as well as a spectacular, and possibly game saving, catch in left field on a long fly ball), George Vlantis & Tyler Witt (both with solid work behind the plate), as well as Jesse Romano and Robert Cass.
Baxter’s BOLTS (16) Vs. HBQVB (10)
The BOLT’S bats remain hot with their fourth win of the season. Amber Roggendorf scored 2 runs and played a great third base, Daniella Connor had a bases clearing double and pitched 3 strong innings to gain her 3rd win of the season. Jillian Cooper had a big hit, scored twice and pitched 2 strong innings. Haylie Lempert had 2 walks and scored 2 runs. Samantha Grenard had a bases clearing triple. Kaitlyn Stoyer had 2 walks and scored once. CeCe Schnall had a big hit and scored two runs. Maggie Cullimore had 2 walks a big base hit, the first of her career and scored 3 big runs in her first ever softball game. Gabby Ranieri walked 3 times, scored a run and caught the fly ball and turned it into a double play to end the game.
New Hyde Park Elks Royals Vs. Hand-Rolled Bagels Dodgers
The New Hyde Park Elks Royals drew the mighty Hand-Rolled Bagels Dodgers in the teams second of three meetings this season. Josh Henderson, John Dunn, Scot Mcllelan each went 4-4 in the contest. Bobby Symanski, Matt Capelle and lance Yetikyel each had 3 RBIs Jack Puvogel, Chris Zovko and A.J. Ponzo made spectacular plays to keep the Dodgers at bay in the late innings. Luke Gruosso got the start at first base.
Sportography River Sharks (4) Vs. Fundamental Baseball Bears (3)
In what was shaping up to be an intense rematch between two formidable opponents, the mighty River Sharks found themselves up against an imposing pitching staff but were able to string together some timely hits and then hold off a furious comeback attempt to capture their third victory of the season, a 4-3 win against a resilient Bears team at the Merillon complex this afternoon. In his second start of the spring, pitcher John Napolitano was once again solid on the hill as he held a relentless lineup to 2 runs over three innings with a gritty performance that included 6 strikeouts, 2 walks and 4 hits while earning his first win of the season. However, it was a leadoff triple followed by a scorching home run by the Bears in the top of the third that briefly tied the score at 2. Offensively, Napolitano contributed with a single and 2 stolen bases. The River Sharks stormed back in the bottom of the third after Thomas Messina hit a two-out single and after stealing second base, came around to score on a triple to deep centerfield off the bat of slugger Bryan Wu who then stole home. Earlier in the game, Messina hit a two-out double to right field, stole third base and scored on a single to centerfield by Wu. Together, the duo combined for four hits, two RBIs, three stolen bases and three runs scored. Max Silverstein took the hill in impressive fashion for the River Sharks in the bottom of the fourth and held the Bears to two hits and one run while striking out four over two innings. Wu came in to close the game in the top of the sixth and after giving up a leadoff double and walk, retired the side to end the game. Lou Mangia made his first appearance of the season for the River Sharks with a hard hit single up the middle in the bottom of the fifth and also showed off some flashy defensive skills throughout the game. Thomas Haug led off the bottom of the second with a hard hit single to centerfield, advanced to second base on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by Scott Schanter and came around to score on two consecutive stolen bases. Catching in his fourth straight complete game, Haug had another great outing behind the plate as he limited the Bears to three stolen bases. Schanter continues to display defensive excellence at second base as he just missed turning a double play in the top of the first. Kyle Forde once again flashed the leather in the field. A special thanks to call-ups Peter Carreca and Brett Figelman who both had great at-bats while each patrolled the outfield with authority. Go River Sharks!
