The Long Island Rail Road’s express summer party train from New York City to the Hamptons returns for the season Friday evening, just in time for the Memorial Day weekend.
The Cannonball, as the weekly diesel train is known, runs every Friday through Labor Day. The train departs from LIRR Hunterspoint Station at 4:06 p.m. Trains connecting to the Cannonball at Jamaica leave Penn Station train at 3:58 p.m. and Atlantic Terminal at 3:56 p.m.
The express train makes stops at Westhampton, Hampton Bays, Southampton, Bridgehampton, East Hampton, Amagansett and Montauk for a trip that clocks in just short of three hours, skipping all the East End weekend traffic and arriving in time for Happy Hour.
Composed of 12 cars, two are designated for “Hampton’s Reserved Service,” which includes attendants serving beverages and snacks. The remaining 10 cars are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Riders can purchase items from food and carts in the third and sixth cars.
Advance one-way tickets cost $37 and on-board tickets run $43. For more information about tickets and Hamptons Reserve Service log on to www.mta.info/lirr or call 718-217-LIRR (5477) and say “More Options” and “Hamptons Reserve.”
