Amityville Woman Charged With Child Endangerment

Two Amityville women were arrested in Massapequa on Saturday after an attempted robbery, according to police.

Ciara Young, 22, from Amityville was spotted filling a shopping cart with food along with two boys’ ages 9 and 10 in a Massapequa Pathmark. She left the store with the 10-year-old and went into a parked car in front of the store, police said.

The 9-year-old then attempted to leave the store, without paying, when he was stopped by store security guards and they called police and the mother of the young boys, according to authorities.

After police arrived, the defendant was being taken into custody when began to resist arrest and started hitting the police officers, cops said.

The mother of the boys, Shakeeta Legette, 29, Amityville, began assaulting the officers in an attempt to stop the arrest, police say.  She injured one of the officer’s shoulders and the other officer’s elbow- they were both transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries, according to authorities.

The children were released to their grandparents.

Young is charged with Assault, Petit Larceny and Resisting Arrest and Legette is being charged with Assault, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Resisting Arrest and Obstruction of Governmental Administration Degree.
