Robert Naughton Throws Perfect Game For Chaminade

Robert Naughton, of Levittown, won two games on April 27 for the Chaminade High School Flyers and one of them was perfect. Naughton is a senior.

Naughton pitched the first perfect game in Chaminade’s 86-year history over St. Dominick’s in CHSAA. The game immediately followed last week’s suspended game between the two teams that resumed in the top of the ninth inning. Naughton started the top of the inning giving up no runs. Chaminade then scored in the bottom of the ninth, winning the game 5-4.

Because of the low pitch count Naughton started game two. He was dominating throwing just 73 pitches and struck out 11, including seven of the last nine batters on his way to a 6-0 victory.

He allowed only three fly ball outs and had his perfect game threatened once but was kept intact with a diving catch by shortstop Terrence Connelly.

Naughton set three Chaminade records this day. He was the first pitcher to win all three games in a series, first pitcher to win two games in one day and first pitcher to achieve a perfect game.

This summer Naughton will be playing his eighth season for the Levittown Cardinals Baseball Club. He was also awarded an academic and an athletic scholarship to attend St. Thomas Aquinas College where he will be attending this fall to pitch for their baseball program.
