A new trailer for “The Perks Of Being A Wallflower” went viral recently and gave viewers the first glimpse into the upcoming flick.
The movie is an adaptation to the novel of the same name by Stephen Chbosky. The popular book was published in 1999 and followed a teen outcast named Charlie.
The story is narrated by Charlie, who pens a series of letters to an anonymous “Friend” describing different instances is his life — including his trouble making friends, losing his only friend and finally finding his way into a new group.
It takes place in Pittsburgh in the early 1990s when Charlie is in high school. Charlie, who’s played by Logan Lerman, enters into the school year as a wallflower and without his best and only friend, who previously committed suicide.
“Dear Friend, I haven’t really talked to anyone outside of my family all summer,” Charlie said in the new trailer.
He soon meets Sam, played by Emma Watson, a senior who becomes Charlie’s love interest, and her stepbrother Patrick, played by Ezra Miller. The two seniors welcome Charlie into their group of “misfits” and the real world, full of parties and experimenting with drugs.
IMdb describes the pairing, “An introvert freshman is taken under the wings of two seniors who welcome him to the real world.”
“Welcome to the island of misfit toys,” Sam told Charlie during one party scene in the new trailer. “I didn’t even think anyone noticed me,” Charlie said in another scene.
The film was reportedly shot in Pennsylvania and produced by Mr. Mudd, who produced “Juno.” Chbosky reportedly penned the screenplay and directed the film.
