After a lengthy illness, Ex-Chief G. Michael Godfrey of the South Floral Park Fire Department passed on July 12. Ex-Chief Godfrey was a volunteer firefighter for over 35 years, of which seven of those years he served as chief.
In addition to him being an ex-chief of the department, he has earned the respect from his fellow firefighters throughout Nassau County and beyond. He performed leadership roles in several organizations as follows:
Director and president of the Fireman’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY);
Ex-president, Nassau County Association of Fire Chiefs;
Past president, Southern New York Volunteer Fireman’s Association;
President, South Shore Volunteer Fire Department Association;
President, Nassau County Fireman’s Association;
President, Nassau County First Battalion Chiefs Association;
Chairman, Nassau County Fire Commission;
Executive Council, New York State Association of Fire Chiefs;
President, Executive Council of Firemanic Association.
These are just a few of the many community services Ex-Chief Godfrey provided.
