Long Islanders are banding together to get one of their own a spot on TLCs baking competition show, Next Great Baker, which is looking for one final contestant to go along with the 12 lucky bakers that have already been chosen for the show.
Shirley resident, Amy Mandala, is among three finalists hoping for the opportunity to join the show, which is hosted by famed New Jersey baker, Buddy Valastro, the star of Cake Boss.
TLC is asking America to select the 13th contestant through voting on the show’s website. Voting has already started and the online poll closes at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 19.
“I’m in it to win it,” Mandala said in her audition video. “I’m in it to achieve my dream, to win the prize, to win the job and learn under Buddy, and then ultimately have my own place on Long Island.”
Joining Mandala’s friends and family in the final push to try to get her the last spot on the show is Legis. Kate Browning (D-Shirley) who is asking her constituents to support the local baker.
“What a great opportunity to show what Shirley is made of, but we need to help get Amy selected first,” Browning said in a statement.
Mandala describes herself as an “out there, in your face” kind of gal, a bit “crazy and off my rocker,” “honest,” and direct.
“Go big or go home,” she said on the video. “Loud and proud.”
