On Tuesday, Aug. 7, Nassau County Police Department (NCPD) and Target hosted the annual National Night Out in the parking lot of the Levittown Target. The event is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; and to generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs. The program also strengthens neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, sending a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Officers from the newly reorganized Second Precinct were on hand to meet the community, and share their safety tips. They offered safety reflectors and coloring books to the children and their parents. Officers Paul Lamonica and Tom Field told the Levittown Tribune that, although the local precinct has moved to join with the Second Precinct, local residents can still meet with the auxiliary units at the office on Polaris Drive in Levittown.
Representatives from Town of Hempstead met with residents and provided information about the Child Safety ID program and passports through its Mobile Services, including offering free eye exams. Bideawee volunteers were in attendance to promote its pet adoption program, while kids of all ages enjoyed extras like cotton candy, popcorn, and big-screen video games.
