A man has been arrested for child endangerment after he accosted a woman who was holding a 4-month-old baby in Roosevelt, Nassau County police said.

Serge Delaleu walked up to the 24-year-old victim at the corner of Nassau Road and Centennial Avenue, spit in her face, yelled and tried to kick her at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Delaleu “asked her ‘is that your husband,’ referring to a  person who was riding a bicycle behind our victim,” Deputy Inspector Kenneth Lack said. “The victim then says, ‘No, I do not know that person.”

That’s when Lack said the 41-year-old Roosevelt man grew agitated and began “moving his hands in a very frightening manner” and spit on her. The incident was captured on surveillance video, according to Lack.

The suspect was apprehended later in Freeport for an unrelated incident, police said. It was his fifth arrest in three years, Lack said.

Delaleu was charged with menacing and endangering the welfare of a child.  He will be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.

The victim and her baby were not harmed.
