3 Freeport Robberies in 1 Hour Linked, Cops Say

Nassau County police are investigating three robbery tries in one hour this weekend in Freeport that may be related to each other, including one case that ended in a stabbing.

In the first case, three men on bicycles punched a 51-year-old man in the face at the corner of Davis Avenue and Dutchess Street and stole his cash 10:50 p.m. Sunday, police said.

About a mile away and 25 minutes later, two men hit a 62-year-old man over the head with what the victim described as a large wooden stick while the victim walked through an alley on Commercial Street, police said.

Then at 11:50 p.m. and a mile south of the second incident, a robber pointed a silver handgun at a 34-year-old man at the corner of Southside Avenue and Sportsman Avenue, police said.

The victim grabbed the gun and began to wrestle with the gunman when a second suspect stabbed the victim four times in the chest and back, police said.

The victim was admitted to a local hospital for treatment of a lacerated liver and a partially collapsed lung.

The robbers fled empty handed in the last two cases, police said. Investigators said there does not appear to be any gang involvement but there was a commonality between the victims. Police would not disclose that link.

The suspects in each case were only described as black men in their teens. Detectives ask anyone with information related to these incidents to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
