People Know Cruise Night
Billy Minicozzi recognized the mystery picture as the car show down by Taby’s diner. He said, “They serve the best hamburgers on Long Island.”
Gregory Adami said, “It was taken at one of the car shows on Audrey Avenue by a person standing by the new town hall because I can see the Buckingham’s awning that is hanging over the sidewalk.”
Preston Rosh of East Norwich called to identify the photograph as the old-fashioned car show. It’s a great name since many of the cars are vintage. He’s visited the Cruise Night car show in Oyster Bay. Preston attends the Vernon school and we told him he could tell his classmates that we would be running the first day of school photographs this week with the correct captions. We ran a few with the wrong captions in the Sept. 13 issue. He said he noted the errors.
Maddie Askeland, a student at the Vernon school also recognized the photograph of the car show. She too has attended the Cruise Nights, a Tuesday night specialty on Audrey Avenue.
Christopher Benny sent an email saying, “At the risk of being on a list with about 100 names that know this week’s location I’m not going to say it’s Audrey Avenue during the car show. Not.”
It was the car show and the great photo was by Shari Cope Dembowski, Oyster Bay-East Norwich Chamber of Commerce administrative assistant.
Austin Azzaretto sent out some eblasts thanking all the people who helped make Cruise Night a success on Tuesday, Sept. 11. They included “Phil from Café Al Dente for donating the great food” and “thank you Bob from Brio for the piazza.” He added thanks to Richie Cannata and his band for a great show.
Cruise Night fan Fran Simpson Cozzolino agreed and said, “Wonderful time! Amazing music with Richie Cannata and his band, and delicious food at Café Al Dente. The band did a 9/11 tribute.”
Belle Santora called and said, “I think but maybe I’m wrong. It’s Cruise Night on Audrey Avenue. Holy cow, two in a row. Unbelievable.” At age 101 Belle is still sharp as a tack, as they say. We started talking politics and we knew she is really on top of things. She was and is a great Republican.
On the other hand, we saw a black Mazda on Union Turnpike with a poster on the back of his car saying, “Won’t hire until Obama’s gone.” We thought that was a mean-spirited comment. If you had the opportunity to hire someone and help them financially, how can you not do it just to spite someone else.
That is what turns most people away from politics, but not from guessing the mystery picture.
