Zwanger Pesiri Radiology (ZP) picked a good time to get hot. ZP beat number two seed Barco Construction 24-8 Friday night, just a week after eliminating the number one seed. ZP pounded 35 hits and played solid defense to support winning pitcher Brian Tinney.
Vinny Foppianno started a two-out rally in the first inning with a single. Marc Fischer and Russ Graham also singled and then Sean O’Flynn struck the big blow: a two-run, fence-clearing homer to give ZP a 4-0 lead.
Barco answered with three runs in the first, but ZP scored another six runs in the second inning and never looked back. ZP’s infield defense had a very good night.
Graham started two double plays at shortstop. John Hernandez also made his plays at SS. O’Flynn was tough at third, while Rich D’Amico and Pete Mendelson covered second base. Fischer and John DeFalco handled everything at first base.
At the plate, Ira Berger continued last week’s hitting parade with another three hits and had six straights hits at one point. Ira was not the only one with a sizzling bat.
Hernandez, Foppianio, Jerry Mazza, D’Amico and Tinney all had three hits. Fischer, Graham, O’Flynn, Bino Reverberi (3 RBIs), DeFalco, Anthony Nicolich and Mendelson had two hits each as ZP stayed hot.
