Holiday Movie
On Thursday, Dec. 27, the recreation department will show Arthur Christmas at St. Paul’s Cluett Hall. Showtime will be 1 p.m. The movie is rated PG and is 97 minutes in length.
Admission is free and snacks will be sold at a nominal charge. Supervision will be supplied by the recreation staff. For further information, please call 516-465-4075.
Winter Floor Hockey At St. Paul’s
Registration for winter floor hockey has begun. This 6-session program will begin on Friday, Jan. 4 and will cost $25.
The age groupings and times are as follows:
Ages 5 and 6 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Ages 7 to 9 7:45 – 8:45 p.m.
Ages 10 to 14 7:45 – 8:45 p.m.
Floor hockey will meet on the following Fridays – Jan. 4 and 18, Feb. 8, 15, and 22, March 8

Holiday Gym Program At St. Paul’s
During the Christmas break, the Garden City Recreation Department will offer a gym program for children in the St. Paul’s Fieldhouse. This program will run Wednesday, Dec. 26 – Friday, Dec. 28.
This program is open to youngsters of the Inc. Village of Garden City only.
The schedule for these programs will be as follows:
Kindergarten and 1st grade – 9 to 10:30 a.m.
2nd and 3rd grades – 10:30 a.m. to noon
4th, 5th, and 6th grades – Noon to 2 p.m.
For grades 7 to 12 – the fieldhouse will be open for supervised open play from 2 to 6 p.m.
For college-aged residents – The gym will be open for pickup games from 6 – 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday during this time.

G.C. Pool Interviews For 2013 Season
The Department of Recreation and Parks will be holding interviews for prospective pool employees (you must be a graduating high school senior or older) for the upcoming 2013 season on the following dates: Thursday, Jan. 3, Friday, Jan. 4, Tuesday, Jan. 8, Wednesday, Jan. 9 and Thursday, Jan. 10 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
All former and prospective employees must interview if they are planning to work at the pool next season. Please pick up an application and sign up for your interview in the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Ave. For further information call 516-465-4075.
Letters To Santa
It’s time to send letters to Santa and the recreation department will speed up the process. A special Santa’s Mailbox will be set up in the waiting area of the recreation department’s administrative offices at 108 Rockaway Ave. beginning Dec. 3. Children can drop their letters in the mailbox and Santa will send them a personalized reply. Santa’s mailbox will be available through Dec. 20.
Christmas Candy Contest
In addition to sending their letters to Santa, kids can take a chance at guessing the number of candy pieces in the jar next to Santa’s Mailbox and the child whose guess is closest to the actual number will win the jar, candy and all. As with Santa’s mailbox, the candy contest will be available until Dec. 20.
After School Program For Grades K And 1
The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce that this winter, the recreation staff will conduct a gym program for children in kindergarten and first grade.
This program will consist of organized games and activities in a supervised setting. This program will run on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in St. Paul’s Field House and ends on Feb. 13. The program is free but a permission slip in necessary. For further information, please contact the recreation office at 516-465-4075.
Meeting Dates – Jan. 2, 9,16, 23 And 30; Feb. 6 And 13
Sneakers must be worn for any activity in the field house. Although this is free, drop off program, a registration form is needed and can be picked up at the recreation office or filled out on the first day your child attends the program.
Please note – Once the children are in our facility, they will not be allowed to leave unless accompanied by an adult. Please come into the building to pick up your child.
After School Gym Program For Grades 2 To 6
The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce that this winter, Rich Anderson and the recreation staff will conduct a gym program for children in grades 2 – 6.
This free program will consist of organized games and activities in a supervised setting. It will run from 3:30 to 5:45 p.m. in St. Paul’s Field House through Feb. 15 according to the following schedule:
Grades 4-6 Mondays from 3:30 – 5:45 p.m.
Grades 2-3 Fridays from 3:30 – 5:45 p.m.

Saturday Men’s Basketball At The Middle School
The recreation department will run its winter Saturday morning basketball program again at the Garden City Middle School’s gym beginning Saturday, Dec.1. This free program is for Garden City residents, college age or older and is strictly pick-up in nature. The program runs from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. each Saturday until Feb. 16. The program will not run on Dec. 29.
