On June 29, friends and family gathered at Cantiague Park in Hicksville to raise awareness and funds for the Fred K’s Cancer organization. The threat of rain deterred many from venturing out, but more than 20 walkers were in attendance.
Fred K’s Cancer, a group founded by the Traveling Baseball Babes’ Serena Ahne and Lisa Leone, raises awareness for oral and testicular cancer awareness and commemorated their fathers who have been diagnosed with cancer. Lisa’s father had been diagnosed with oral cancer in 2003 and Serena’s father had been diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2008.
The group has raised about $2,600 this year, but continue to fundraise and collect donations with a goal of $4,000. Visit www.fredkscancer.blogspot.com/ for more information or to make a donation.
