Local artist Freddy Lopez’s art exhibit on display at Plainview Library concluded its run for the month of June earlier this week. Born in Bogota, Colombia in March of 1953, Lopez said he has “always admired the beauty in colors and shapes that nature offers us each and every day – this was in part to my father’s vision he bestowed upon me as a child.”
Lopez began his art as a teenager, and started working in photography helping his bother Olher’s art studio, where he took photos and developed film in a darkroom.
His journey led him to working through the years in my own art gallery, as well as becoming professional cameraman and lighting director for movies and documentaries.
In the early 1980s, Lopez came to the U.S. with his family, and a few years ago, began to study interior design at C.W. Post. Soon after, he founded his own interior decorating company, Decorart, which he continues to operate today.
“My passion for photography is with me each and every day,” Lopez said. “Coming from family of artists has been a very special gift that life has given me – I feel as if my eyes are like two lenses which are attracted to the colors, forms and textures that I see in nature’s people, animals and plants.”
Lopez says his goal is to capture those images from nature, and bring them to those who can appreciate and take enjoyment from their beauty for years to come.
