Meadowbrook Women’s Initiative

Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) was recently the installing officer of the annual installation of the Meadowbrook Women’s Initiative, held at Temple Chaverim in Plainview last month on Wednesday, June 26. “This organization is devoted to making a difference in people’s lives,” said Jacobs.

The Meadowbrook Women’s Initiative raises money through the year and then they present a checks to carefully reviewed and selected organizations to help in their efforts to help others. Every year a check is presented to the Hofstra University Medical School, in partnership with North Shore/Long Island Jewish Health System in recognition of the promise that this medical school with be a first class, innovative resource to the community.

This year, as in prior years, the MWI check will be sponsoring scholarships for the summer for interns. Another check was presented to Angela’s House, an organization dedicated to assisting families caring for children who are medically fragile, chronically ill and/or suffering from a life threatening illness. It provides residential housing with 24 hour nursing care.

The third check was presented to Family Residences and Essential Enterprise, Inc, known as FREE. This is an organization that supports a diverse program benefitting over 3,500 differently disabled people.   Clients of FREE have intellectual and other developmental disabilities for which they receive a wide assortment of services including housing, rehabilitation, family support and after school programs based on individual needs.

Jacobs said, “Following the presentations, young people from FREE sang beautifully for the over 200 people who were gathered.  I do not believe there were many dry eyes in the room. I am now a member of MWI and marvel at how many lives they touch by their devotion to “making a difference.”
