Editorial: There’s No I In Baseball

Retired hurler Curt Schilling once said that, “Baseball is not a sport you can achieve individually.” No further proof is needed to back up that statement than how the Garden City U11 baseball team recently won its second consecutive District 29 championship. With nine players returning from last year’s U10 championship team, this squad used a team approach to beat Franklin Square and come out on top for the second consecutive year. From the excellent defense of the outfielders to the shutdown pitching of its starters and live bats sprinkled throughout its lineup, this batch of U11 champs became kings of the diamond with every player contributing to the eventual top prize. It’s an effort that would have undoubtedly made Schilling proud.
