The tenth annual Heart And Sole 5-Kilometer Run was held through the streets of Plainview on Sunday morning, July 22.
The Run started and finished at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School. A record smashing field of 541 runners and walkers completed the Run as, in its tenth year, the Heart & Sole Run has clearly become one of the more important summer road races in Nassau County.
Top local finishers included Christian Schiavone and John Azzaro, both of Plainview, who scored first and second respectively in the 12 and under age group, Gregory Kossin of Plainview, third place award winner in the 20-24 age group, Naomi Smolevitz of Woodbury, who earned first place honors among the women in the 20-24 age group, Shari Klarfeld of Plainview, who was the third female finisher overall and first in the 30-34 age group, James Sabatino of Syosset, third place award winner in the 35-39 age group, Stephanie Plotkin of Plainview, who took home the third pl;ace plaque in the women’s 45-49 age group, Linna Tang of Syosset, third place winner among the women in the 55-59 age group, Pamela Lee of Syosset, top female finisher in the 60-64 age group, Eddie Arbeiter of Plainview, who scored second in the 60-64 age group, Constance Sehlmeyer of Syosset, top woman in the 65-69 age group, Bill Meisner of Plainview, third place awardee among the 65-69 year old men, Art Koppelman of syosset, tops in the 70-74 age group, Howard Kestenbaum, a recently arrived resident of Plainview who took second place in the 80-84 age group, Bert Jablon of Syosset, first in the 85-89 age group, and Ira Bellach of Syosset, top finisher in the Clydesdale Plus category.
In addition, special awards were presented to Ira Salzman of Woodbury, who earned second place honors among the Physicians associated with Plainview and/or Syoset Hospitals, Diana Cusa of Syosset, who scored third among the female employees in the NSUH-LIJ Sysem, and Trevor Goodman of Jericho, who scored third among male NSUH-LIC employees.
The 5K was preceded by a fun run for the youngsters, with about 40 young runners completing a lap around the Middle School track.
