Ra holds awarness event in Kelleher Park
Despite the hot and humid weather, plenty of people turned out for the recent Family Safety Day at Kelleher Park in Williston Park. New York State Assemblyman Ed Ra and Williston Park Mayor Paul Ehrbar were in attendance for the event which featured three safety tables highlighting the community’s commitment to keeping children and families safe. The three tables included a fire safety table, AT&T’s No Texting and Driving and Nassau County’s Kidpix Child Identification Program.
“Basically we’re giving out information on all the aspects of child safety,” said Ra. “We have three tables set up and the kids are encouraged to visit each table and as an extra we are offering free ice cream to beat the heat.”
Dozens of children and their families lined up to receive information on the dangers of texting while driving and to register for their Kidpix Identification card.
Daniella Condon, of Williston Park said she found out important information on how to stay safe and that made her feel good.
“I don’t drive yet but I found out why it’s bad to text people when you are behind the wheel,” said the Mineola Middle School student. “I also signed up for the Child ID program which I think is a very good thing to have.”
Mayor Ehrbar said the safety day was a great concept and that he believes it will help parents and kids practice their “safety awareness.”

The next event sponsored by Ra will be a car seat safety check at the Albertson Fire Department on Friday, Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
