Long Island Thunderbolts Softball Club

The Long Island Thunderbolts will be holding tryouts for the 2013-14 season for Girls Softball ages 10U-18U at Syosset/Woodbury Park.

The Long Island Thunderbolts was founded in 2010 by coaches Carmine Mazzaro and Peter Janowsky.  They started with just one team, have since grown to five, and hope to expand more.  The club’s mission is to teach players the game of softball, one pitch at a time.  They accomplish this through discipline, respect for each other, integrity and poise as players push one another to strive for greatness.

There is a misconception among many that the club is named after a weather pattern.  However, the team got its name from female factory workers on Long Island during the WWII era.  They worked together with the ethic of putting the team first—just as the Long Island Thunderbolts do today “Some girls want to play and some are college driven” said Janowsky, 18U head coach.  “We take pride in teaching, showing respect, education and integrity.”  The major attribute of this organization is to help the girls develop as players and get them ready to  play softball in college.  They also assist the players with recruitment.

While the Thunderbolts is primarily a softball club, its goal is to promote life skills such as education, discipline, self-esteem and confidence through athletics and social events.  The club’s motto is The Thunderbolt’s ACE’s.  The A stands for Athlete; where the club does its best to help each athlete reach her full potential.  The C represents Community, where athletes are encouraged to give back to the community by donating time and helping to raise money for various charities on Long Island.  Finally, the E stands for Education, where a well- rounded athlete is required to demonstrate solid classroom skills and  good grades in order to continue in the organization.

The coaching staff for the Thunderbolts has a combined total of 15 years of experience with the five squads.  The staff is led by Coach Mazzaro, an ASA certified coach. He has been coaching the game for over 12 years, more than 900 games.  The co-founder of Long Island Thunderbolts has taken teams to NY State Finals, Pony Nationals and FAST Nationals in Florida.  The success of the organization has produced younger coaches, who continue to play for the club.

The Long Island Thunderbolts is committed to each individual player’s long -term goals. If you are interested in being a part of this dedicated organization, come to one of the team’s tryouts on August 11, 17 and 18 at Syosset/Woodbury Park.  To find out more about dates, times, or general information, please check out the team’s website at tryouts@lithunderbolts.com.
