It was a great night for music and a fun night for those who came out to hear “Hey There Delilah” from Tom Higgenson and the Plain White T’s. This group was the headliner at Fresh 102.7 FM’s Fresh In The Park concert series. The event took place recently at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park. Also performing at this free concert were Sara Bareilles and an up and coming band called A Great New World.
The weather cooperated, as it was a perfect night to bring not only lawn chairs and blankets, but gather with friends and family as they tuned in for some fine music. Opening up the night were A Great New World, who were happy to perform at the park and grateful to open up for Bareilles and the Plain White T’s. This two-member pop band was formed by singers Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino. They originated from New York City and are known for their hit single “This is the New Year” which starting to get the crowd hooked in as they ended their set with this piece. However, they would show up later on near the 102.7 tent to sign autographs and take some pictures for some happy fans.
Next on stage was Sara Bareilles, known for her hit single “Love Song”. This was a great time for fans, especially the ladies, in which many were seen singing along with Bareilles and her group. Entering the night, Bareilles announced that she was No. 2 on the Billboards Charts with her fourth album, The Blessed Unrest. She is second on the list behind rapper Jay-Z. She ended her set with her new single “Brave”, which got a roar from the crowd.
Finally, the big act of the night, The Plain White T’s opened their set on a high note with “Should’ve Gone to Bed”. The night kept getting better and better as they got the crowd to sing along with songs such as “Rhythm of Love”, “1,2,3,4” and of course, “Hey There Delilah”. To cap off an electric night, The Plain White T’s ended it with “Hate (I Really Don’t Like You).”
“I thought it was a really good show and it had a great turnout too,” said Edwin Maldonado, of Massapequa. “I wished each artist could have played longer, but it was a perfect night for a really entertaining lineup of performances.”
To sum it up, the concert produced a really great turnout and was enjoyed by many, including avid concert go-er Brandon Scheuplein. “They were amazing and did not disappoint!” said Scheuplein. “It’s rare that you hear groups like this play at places like this. They were phenomenal.”
