Oyster Bay School Superintendent of Business and Finance, Christopher Van Cott was praised for his financial bookkeeping at last Tuesday night’s school board meeting. The accounting firm, R.S. Abrams & Co LLP commended Van Cott on his work saying that he has been doing a great job of keeping on top of the district’s finances.
The district received an Unqualified Rating which is the highest rating a school district can receive. It means that there were no weaknesses or deficiencies ascertained in the External Auditors Report.
“I am very fortunate to oversee staff who utilize their school finance experience and who understand the importance of internal controls. Successful audits validate their hard work,” said Van Cott.

Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School Principal, Gina Faust is leaving the school district on Nov. 21 to take a similar position in the Roslyn school district. Faust, who has been in the district for more than 20 years, gave notice a few weeks ago that she was leaving her position.
Faust served as a kindergarten teacher and literacy coach before becoming the principal at Theodore Roosevelt Elementary.
“She will be sorely missed,” said Superintendent Dr. Laura Seinfeld. “She has been a wonderful colleague and a great teacher in our district.”
The School District is currently looking for a new principal to replace Faust at Theodore Roosevelt Elementary. The next school board meeting will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 8 p.m. in the high school library.
