Ffoure Pounds Sterling

Ffoure Pounds Sterling, an exhibit at the Oyster Bay Historical Society’s Koenig Center is open now through Jan. 19, 2014. View the 1653 First Purchase agreement with the Matinecocks, preserved in the Office of the Town Clerk in Oyster Bay, as well as the 1661 agreement granting Henry Townsend permission to build his mill at Mill Pond. Kirk Larsen Art Exhibit

Artist Kirk Larsen will display his artwork in the Locust Valley Library’s Community Room now through Jan. 26. The room is open from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Raffle for MSA

The Knitted Purl, 80 South Street, and customer, Nora, are Raffling off of Nora’s Ravishing Razzamatazzle Knit Collage Blanket (valued at $600) to raise money for the Oyster Bay Main Street Association. Raffle tickets are $5 or 6 for $25. For information call 516-558-7800.

Holiday Express

The OBEN Chamber of Commerce joins the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum in sponsoring the annual Holiday Express weekend on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 14 and 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., a family friendly holiday celebration. Come enjoy free horse and carriage rides, decorated for the holidays; photo ops with Santa Claus on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m., bring your camera. [The tree lighting at the Derby-Hall bandstand will be on Saturday, too.] It’s a great chance to see the museum collection of artifacts and photographs and an operating model railroad; enjoy hot cider, candy canes and light refreshments; raffles and a 50/50. Gospel Concert And Open House

The Oyster Bay Historical Society celebrates the holidays with a concert and open house on Saturday, Dec. 14. The musical program, provided by the Hood Mass Choir, begins at 4 p.m. at the Hood A.M.E. Zion Church at 137 South Street. Then walk to the Earle-Wightman House and the Koenig Center at 20 Summit Street, for their open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Food, refreshments, and good cheer, free and open to the public although donations to the church and to the society are welcomed. Autograph Authenticity

The Long Island Picture Frame offers an autograph authenticity day on Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 4 Audrey Avenue. Call 516-558-7511.

Journal Making Class

The Oyster Bay Historical Society presents a journal making workshop with Diana Kovacs on Dec. 14 from 12:30 to 4 p.m. There is a fee. Call 922-5032 for information.


Wednesday, Dec. 18

Toy Drive

Donated toys can be delivered to the Inter-religious & Human Needs Council (IHNC) Toy Drive, at the First Presbyterian Church, 60 East Main Street, on Wednesday, Dec. 18 (between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and Thursday, Dec. 19, (between 9 a.m. to noon).  Toys must be new and unwrapped to both allow them to be appropriately sorted but also to allow the parents to wrap the gifts to personalize them.

Toy Drive Continues

Donated toys can still be delivered to the IHNC Toy Drive at the First Presbyterian Church, 60 East Main Street, on Thursday, Dec. 19, (between 9 a.m. to noon). Toys must be new and unwrapped.


Tuesday, Dec. 31

New Year’s Party

The Robert H. Spittel Post 1285 of Bayville, is holding a New Year’s Eve event from 7:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. There is limited seating so please reserve early by calling Rich at 628-1993 or 628-2512. There will be dining, dancing and casino games with dealers and prizes. Tickets are $125 each; watch the ball fall on big screen TVs. Enjoy blackjack, roulette and slot machines.

TRA Trip Selling Out

of the Theodore Roosevelt Association announced the good news that their 2014 Strenuous Life – Panama Trip has sold out. But they are still holding a few more places for TRA members. It is a specially designed custom tour to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Canal’s opening. The dates are March 6 to 13, 2014. If you arrive early you can see the Panama Carnival, March 3 and 4. There are rates for single and double occupancy and rates for children. It is a perfect balance of history, remembrance and touring; lectures, Panama Canal full transit and Panama Railway trip; current expansion viewing of the third set of locks; birding and nature excursion; commemorative ceremony with remarks; wreath laying ceremony with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and much more! Food Pantry

The North Shore Assembly of God, 84 Orchard St, Oyster Bay is operating a new food pantry for the community. It is meant to supplement the growing needs of the community. It is open on Tuesdays during their prayer times: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. If you are in need of their service, please call Pastor Diane at 922-2547 and make an appointment to complete their screening process.
