Wednesday, March 5

Ash Wednesday

On March 5, the Farmingdale United Methodist Church, located at 407 Main Street, will conduct Ash Wednesday services at noon. Call 516-694-3424 for more information. Seven Methodist Churches in the area will also offer a combined Ash Wednesday service at 7:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, located at 25 Broadway in Amityville. All are welcome.

 

Farmingdale Board of Education

The next meeting of the Farmingdale School District Board of Education will be held on March 5, at 8 p.m., in the Howitt Middle School cafeteria. 

Thursday, March 6

Chamber of Commerce Meeting

The Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its next general meeting at noon on March 6 at Bellagio Pizza Restaurant, located at 211 Airport Plaza. At the meeting, there will be a presentation on holding government accountable from guest speaker Susan Lerner, executive director of Common Cause New York.

 

Junior Women’s Club Meeting

The next meeting of the Junior Women’s Club of Farmingdale will be held from 7:30-10:00 p.m., on March 6, at Village Hall, located at 361 Main Street in Farmingdale. 

 

Farmingdale Cinema Presents Lamb of God: As The Palaces Burn

At 8 p.m., on March 6, come to the Farmingdale Multiplex Cinemas, located at 1001 Broad Hollow Road, for a special one-time showing of Lamb of God: As The Palaces Burn, a documentary that follows heavy metal band Lamb of God and their fans throughout the world.

 

During the filming process, in 2012, the story took a dramatic turn when singer Randy Blythe was arrested on charges of manslaughter. What followed was a heart-wrenching courtroom drama that left fans, friends, and curious onlookers around the world on the edge of their seats. The film will include a new/pre-recorded Q&A with the band members that will be available exclusively to audiences attending the theatrical screenings.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade Deadline 

If you or your organization would like to march in the second annual Village of Farmingdale St. Patrick’s Day parade please email either John Court, johnc@thenuttyirishman.com or Chuck Gosline, ckgosline@optonline.net for more details. The parade will be held on March 23, along Main Street in Farmingdale.    

Sunday, March 9

St. Patrick’s Day Dinner

On March 9, St. Thomas Episcopal Church, located at 298 Conklin Street in Farmingdale, will hold its annual  St. Patrick’s Day dinner fundraiser, at 5 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children under 12. For reservations call 516-752-9254. 

 

Pasta Dinner and Toy Drive

On March 9, the Village of Farmingdale Fire Department’s Junior Brigade is having a pasta dinner and toy drive, from 1-5 p.m., at Village Hall, located at 361 Main Street in Farmingdale. The event costs $10 for adults and $5 for children. All unwrapped toy donations will go to the Cohen Childrens Hospital at LIJ. Call 516-531-9820 for more details.

 

Backyard Horticulture

On March 9, the Farmingdale-Bethpage Historical Society will be hosting this gardening program just in time for Spring planting. Organized by JoAnne Bihary, the event starts at 2 p.m. at the Farmingdale Public Library.

Board of Trustees Work Session

The next public work session of the Village of Farmingdale Board of Trustees will be held on March 10, at 7 p.m., inside Village Hall, located at 361 Main Street in Farmingdale.

Department of Environmental Conservation

The state DEC will be holding a public meeting, at 7 p.m. on March 11, at Village Hall, located at 361 Main Street, to discuss a remedy for the proposed Farmingdale Plaza Cleaners Superfund site.

Wednesday, March 12

Farmingdale School Budget Workshop

On March 12, the Farmingdale School District Board of Education will meet for a special workshop on the district’s proposed spending plan for the 2014-2015 school year.

Zoning Board of Appeals

The next meeting of the Village of Farmingdale Zoning Board of Appeals will be held on at 8 p.m., on March 13, at Village Hall, located at 361 Main Street. 

 

Farmingdale State College Performs Eve Ensler’s Monologue

Farmingdale State College’s Back Stage Theater Co. will be performing “A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer” from March 13-15 at 8 p.m. 

This work is an anthology of writings about violence against women that was co-edited by Eve Ensler, the author of The Vagina Monologues. 

Tickets are $5 and all profits will go towards local organizations that benefit female victims of domestic violence. Performances will be held in Sinclair Hall, with the exception of the March 14 performance, which will be held in Roosevelt Hall.  For more information, call 631-420-2552 or 631-794-6258.

 

Chamber Concert

Farmingdale High School’s Chamber Choir will be holding a concert inside the lecture hall on March 13, at 6:30 p.m.

Board of Trustees Work Session

The next public work session of the Village of Farmingdale Board of Trustees will be held on March 17, at 7 p.m., at Village Hall, located at 361 Main Street.

Special Elections

Polls will be open from noon to 9 p.m., on March 18, at Farmingdale Village Hall, where local voters will cast ballots for the position of court justice and village trustee.

The next meeting of the Women’s Club of Farmingdale will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on March 20, at Village Hall, located at 361 Main Street in Farmingdale.
