On Tuesday, March 18, Stewart Manor will be holding village elections from noon to 9 p.m. at Village Hall on 120 Covert Ave. in Stewart Manor. Current trustees Orlando Sa and Mary Carole Schafenberg, who filled in the seats of former trustee James Lynch and current mayor Jerry Tangredi respectively, are running for their first full terms. Stewart Manor resident Bill Grogran is also running for trustee. The following was submitted by Grogan. After contacting Sa and Schafenberg, there was no response as of press time.
Stewart Manor is the best example of how living in small town America offers an excellent quality of life. It is a special, tranquil, happy place that is isolated from the harshness and complexities of living in NYC. Residents can enjoy a daily run or brisk walk through the tree-lined streets. Children spend their summers splashing around with their friends at the village pool. There is an abundance of excellent elementary schools, high schools, and colleges in close proximity to educate young students.
Bill Grogan is deeply indebted to those residents who have served their neighbors with the goal of making the Village of Stewart Manor a place where families proudly want to raise their children. A village resident since 1976, Bill is committed to providing the same intelligent leadership as his predecessors. His 45 years of business and managerial experience working for IBM and Texaco, Inc. have given Bill the knowledge to be a voice for residents in these struggling economic times.
Bill will apply his business experience working to:
• Effectively manage expenses to prevent spending in excess of approved budgetary amounts.
• Collaborate with village board colleagues to find new sources of revenues.
• Balance the rate of village tax increase with the level of services the taxpayers of Stewart Manor expect.
In order to achieve these goals, it is imperative that a 5-year strategic plan be implemented in order to:
• Accurately forecast known mandated expense increases
• Plan a fiscally responsible maintenance and replacement schedule for all village capital assets
A proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Bill has also served Stewart Manor in a variety of capacities including as an active volunteer of the Stewart Manor Fire Department (SMFD) and as a coach for a number of teams including St. Anne’s CYO basketball, Stewart Manor Little League and the Garden City Centennial soccer squad.
