Farmingdale Board of Education

The next meeting of the Farmingdale Board of Education will be held on April 2, at 8 p.m., inside the Howitt Middle School cafeteria. 

Thursday, April 3

Chamber of Commerce

The next general meeting of the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce will be held at noon on April 3, at Absolutely Mario Restaurant and Bar, located at 10 Allen Blvd. in Farmingdale. 

Saturday, April 5

Pediatric Nursing Conference

On April 5, Farmingdale State College will host the Pediatric Nursing Conference, from 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. inside Gleeson Hall. For more information contact Joanne Lapidus-Graham at lapidujb@farmingdale.edu.

Sunday, April 6

Albany Avenue 5K

On April 6, join the Albany Avenue PTA for their 4th annual 5K race. The race will begin promptly at 9 a.m., outside the Albany Avenue School, located at 101 N. Albany Ave. in North Massapequa. There will be refreshments, bagels, t-shirts, a barbecue (provided by Chili’s), and a post-race ceremony for award winners. For more details call Lisa Pugliese before race time at 516-249-1061.

Board of Trustees

The next meeting of the Village of Farmingdale Board of Trustees will be held on April 7, at 8 p.m., inside Village Hall, located at 361 Main St. in Farmingdale. 

 

Farmingdale PAL Meeting

The next meeting of the Farmingdale Police Activity League will be held at the PAL clubhouse, on April 7, at 7 p.m. 

Tuesday, April 8

ASL Honor Society Induction

At 7 p.m., on April 8, Farmingdale High School will hold a special ceremony for students achieving honors in American Sign Language. 

 

Mobile for Businesses 

Today, lots of customers are using mobile devices to find what they need, to assess their options, to make decisions, and to make purchases. Small businesses who start embracing mobile now will be the ones best able to compete. 

On April 8, Farmingdale State College, located at 2350 Broadhollow Road in Farmingdale, will help participants better understand this mobile transition so they will not get left behind. The program runs from 9-11 a.m. at the SBDC Conference Center. Cost is $12 to participate, and pre-registration is required.

School Board Budget Adoption

On April 9, the Farmingdale School District’s Board of Education will hold a special meeting, at 8 p.m., to adopt the proposed budget for the 2014-2015 fiscal year. 

Saturday, April 12

Easter Celebration

The Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Easter festivities on April 12, at the Farmingdale Village Green. At 11:30 a.m., kids are welcome to line-up before the big Easter egg hunt, which begins at noon. The Easter Bunny will also be stopping by to take photos with the kids.

3rd PTSD Awareness Benefit

The Main Event, located at 1815 Broad Hollow Road in Farmingdale, will host the third annual PTSD Awareness fundraiser, on April 13, from 1:30-6 p.m. Held in honor of Robert Cafici—a combat Marine OIF Veteran who passed away in 2007 after a long fight with the horrors he witnessed in Iraq—the annual fundraiser helps support the Veteran Activity Center, giving vets a safe place to gather and support each other. 

The fundraiser will also feature a DJ, live music, auctions, a raffle, 50/50, and a cash bar. Tickets cost $50 per person, or $42 online at www.bootsonthegroundny.com. For more information call 631-615-2200 or email info@bootsonthegroundny.com.

St. Kilian’s Food Pantry

Located at 140 Elizabeth St., St. Kilian’s church serves anyone who lives within the parish boundaries regardless of religion, race or ethnicity. The Food Pantry is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. It is also available certain Saturdays by appointment only. Spanish translators are available Tuesdays and Fridays. Weight Watchers

Looking to shed a few pounds? The Farmingdale United Methodist Church’s Weight Watchers program meets every Wednesday at 5 p.m.  

 

Alcoholics Anonymous

Every Friday, from 5:30-8:45 p.m., the Farmingdale United Methodist Church, located at 407 Main St., holds Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

 

Bell Choir

Put some jingle into your evening. Come join the Bell Choir every Thursday at 7 p.m., the Farmingdale United Methodist Church, located at 407 Main St.

 

Kid’s Choir

The Living Faith Christian Church’s Kid’s Choir meets every Thursday, from 6:45-7:30 p.m., at the church, located at 25 Hempstead Tpke.
