Easter Egg Hunt For Pre-K To Grade 5

The Garden City Recreation Department is once again sponsoring the annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19 at Community Park’s fields. This year three hunts will be held at 10 a.m. sharp with three age divisions: preschool to kindergarten, grades 1 and 2; and grades 3 to 5.

Special eggs will be stuffed and hidden for all divisions. Each hunt will also feature a grand prize (an Easter basket filled with goodies) which will go to the youngster who finds the egg marked “#1 Lucky Egg.” For further information about the hunt, please call the recreation department at 516-465-4075.

Parent And Child Classes Registration Begins

The US Sports Institute’s Parent & Me Sports Squirts programs have been designed to introduce children aged 2-3 years old to a variety of sports, games and group activities, all with the help of Mom and/or Dad. Each week, your USSI coach will lead you and your child through a series of fun games and activities, designed to encourage learning, develop gross motor skills, and promote social interaction. All these progressive curriculums enable you and your child to work together to learn the key skills and techniques in each sport. Parent & Me classes are open to residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City ages 2–3 and are offered in Total Sports Squirts or Soccer Squirts according to the following schedule:

Soccer Squirts: Tuesdays beginning April 22–June 10; 45-minute classes at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and noon.

Total Sports Squirts: Thursdays beginning April 24–June 12; 45-minute classes at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and noon. All classes will take place at St. Paul’s.

Please note, your child must by the proper age by the start of the class in order to attend. To register for any of these classes, visit US Sports Institute’s website at www.ussportsinstitute.com The cost of this program is $145.

Spring Adult Yoga

Certified yoga instructor Connie McKnight has designed adult yoga classes with all ages in mind. Classes are open to both men and women. Each class in our sessions is one hour long. Any resident of the Incorporated Village of Garden City is invited to join these relaxing classes.

The course schedule is as follows:

Yoga For All : Mondays at 7:30 p.m. in St. Paul’s Senior Center beginning April 21. (8 weeks due to holidays, $52)

Intermediate Yoga: Wednesdays at 10:15 a.m. in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall beginning April 9. (10 weeks, $65)

Beginner Yoga: Wednesdays at 9 a.m. in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall beginning April 9. (10 weeks, $65)

Children’s Yoga Classes

Certified yoga instructor Connie McKnight has designed youth yoga classes for ages 6 – 13. Each class in this 8-week session is one hour long. All classes are held at St. Paul’s Senior Center and will begin the week of April 10. Any resident of the Incorporated Village of Garden City in this age group is invited to join these relaxing classes. The cost of this session will be $72.

The course schedule is as follows:

Ages 6 to 8: Thursdays at 4:15 p.m.

Ages 9 to 13: Thursdays at 5:15 p.m.

Platform Tennis

The recreation and parks department will offer beginner level platform tennis lessons at Community Park’s platform courts on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. This six-week course will offer the basic instruction and will be taught by our certified platform instructor Sue Tarzian. Each class will be 1.5 hours in length. The cost of this program is $225. Classes begin on April 9. This program is for beginners only and participants must be Garden City residents.

Spring Youth Tennis

The Garden City Department of Recreation and Parks Tennis Center is pleased to announce the start of registration for its spring program. Spring Tennis classes are offered to Garden City residents ages 4 through 11 years old. All classes will begin the week of Monday, April 21. The schedule and fees for this year’s youth classes are as follows (all classes are 55 minutes long):

It’s Time To Register For Roller Hockey

It is time to register for spring roller hockey. Whether you played in the past or looking to get involved, there is no better time to sign up and experience all the fun. All programs take place at the roller rink located at Community Park.

Please make all checks payable to the “Inc Village of Garden City.” Remember space is limited in all our programs so please register early.

This season’s roller hockey programs are broken down into grades. Please pay careful attention as grades and dates/times have changed.

Each participant is required to wear full equipment at all times. This includes hockey helmet with a cage, hockey gloves, shin pads, elbow pads, roller blades, hockey stick, long pants, and a protective cup.

A description of each program we will offer is as follows:

Kindergarten Pee Wee Clinic

No experience is required in hockey or roller skating. This hour-long clinic will take place Sunday afternoons at 3:15 p.m. beginning April 6. The cost of this 8-week program is $80.

1st-Grade Squirts Division

This beginner program will continue to develop young players through drills and scrimmages. This hour-long program will take place Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. beginning April 6. The cost of this eight week program is $80.

2nd- And 3rd-Grade Mites Division

Games will take place on Sunday late afternoons with either a 4:30 or 5:45 p.m. game time depending on your child’s team schedule. The season begins on April 6. The cost of this program is $80.

4th- and 5th-Grade Junior Division

Games will take place on Friday afternoons with either a 4 or 5:30 p.m. game time depending on your child’s team schedule. season begins on April 4. The cost of this program is $80.

6th-, 7th-, & 8th-Grade Senior Division

Games will take place on Friday evenings with either a 6:45 or 8 p.m. game time depending on your child’s team schedule. The season begins on April 4. The cost of this program is $80.

Adult Division For 30 & Over

Games will take place on Sundays at 7 p.m. (5 games) and Fridays at 9:15 p.m. (5 games). Games are in “pick up” format. This season will begin on Friday, April 4. The cost of this program is $70.

Garden City’s Department of Recreation and Parks is pleased to announce that they are again working with U.S. Sports Institute to offer a wonderful variety of programs for ages 3 to 13 this spring and summer. Spring Sports Squirts Offerings

The Recreation and Parks Department has worked with U.S. Sports Institute to offer a set of favorite and new spring programs for ages 3 to 7. Each 8-week session will introduce the sports chosen to the participants in a safe, structured, fun setting. Each class lasts one hour and will work on hand-eye coordination, balance, agility and movement as well as the sport(s) the child is participating in. All classes will be held at St. Paul’s and will begin the week of April 21. The schedule is

T-Ball Squirts—ages 3 to 5 Mondays at 1 p.m. $130

T-Ball Squirts—ages 4 to 5 Mondays at 2:15 p.m. $130

T-Ball Squirts—ages 4 to 5 Mondays at 3:30 p.m. $130

T-Ball Squirts—ages 5 to 6 Mondays at 4:30 p.m. $130

Soccer Squirts—ages 3 to 5 Tuesdays at 1 p.m. $150

Soccer Squirts—ages 3 to 5 Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m. $150

Senior Soccer Squirts—ages 5 to 7 Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. $150

Sports Squirts—ages 3 to 5 Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m. $150

Multi-Sport Camp For Ages 5–12 During Spring Break    

Garden City’s Department of Recreation and Parks will offer U.S. Sports Institute’s Total Play Multi-Sport Camp during the spring break.

This camp will be held at St. Paul’s from April 14–17 (Monday through Thursday). The following time frames will be offered:

9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – $125

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. – $150

1 p.m. to 4 p.m. – $85

The price listed is cost if a child is registered by April 1. After April 1, a 20 percent fee will be added.
