Chiefs Of The Garden City Fire Department
The board of trustees join me in extending our sincere gratitude to Chief William K. Castoro for the dedicated and professional level of service that he rendered to our village during his recent term as chief of the Garden City Fire Department. Special thanks is also extended to the wives and families of all of the dedicated volunteer firefighters for sharing their husbands with the village and for all of the sacrifices that they make to assure that we are protected.
I am pleased to report that as a result of the fire department election held, Chief William K. Castoro has been re-elected as chief of the Garden City Fire Department. He will be aided during the coming year by returning members as follows: First Assistant Joseph R. Nadolny, Second Assistant Chief Brian G. Gallo and Third Assistant Chief Thomas Strysko. We wish them well and thank them for their continued involvement.
Garden City Seeking New Members For The Special Police
The Garden City Special Police are comprised of residents who choose to give of their free time and energy by volunteering to help maintain the quality of life in Garden City. Their commitment to excellence and dedication to the community helps to give our village a higher level of safety and security to its residents.
The presence of the Special Police in uniform, on patrol, in marked police units has proven to reduce vandalism and other crimes in the village. The Special Police are responsible for crowd control at parades, traffic control at fairs and assisting pedestrians at crossings.
Please consider becoming a member of the Garden City Special Police force. If you are a village resident, 21 years of age or older and interested in giving a little back to our community that provides for us and our children, please call 516-742-9603.
School Budget Meetings
The school district 2014-15 budget meetings are scheduled as follows (all budget meeting are held at 8:15 p.m. at Garden City High School):
April 23: Budget adoption
May 13: Budget hearing
May 20, 6 a.m. – 10 p.m.: Budget vote in high school gymnasium
Calendar Adjustment
Due to the difficult winter weather, four days of school were canceled for Garden City Public Schools. The calendar will be adjusted to make up these days. April 21 and 22 and May 23 will now be full days of school. Additionally, Friday, June 27 will be used as a staff development day for faculty and paraprofessionals.
Shop And Dine In Garden City And Enjoy The Experience
I encourage residents to make a conscious effort to choose Garden City as the place to shop and dine. It would be extremely helpful to our business community if you could make one purchase daily in the village stores. Customer service, selection and quality are outstanding. While shopping or dining let the merchant know that you appreciate them and all that they offer. I look forward to seeing everyone in town.
Board Of Trustees Meeting Schedule
The next regularly scheduled board of trustee’ meeting will be held on Thursday, April 17, at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the boardroom at village hall. I encourage all residents to attend board of trustees meetings so as to be thoroughly informed of village issues from a first-hand perspective.
