Donors Needed In Roslyn – May 4

bloodOn Sunday May 4, from 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Temple Sinai and Temple Beth Sholom will be holding a Blood Drive and Bone Marrow swabbing as part of the Mitzvah Day program.

When was the last time you gave blood? Busy schedules, inclement weather, and illness; these all combine to make the winter months a time when blood is in short supply. Long Island Blood Services (LIBS) a division of New York Blood Center provides blood and blood products to hospitals in Nassau, Suffolk, and Queens and appeals to both donors and those who have never donated, to start now and make a difference.

“Our primary concerns are our ability to meet predictable patient needs as well as any unexpected emergencies that may occur,” said Harvey Schaffler, executive director, Long Island Blood Services. “It is critical that people donate blood regularly for both everyday and emergency transfusion needs.”

Many people are alive today because someone took the time to donate. We inspect our cars each year, have our teeth cleaned, and file our taxes. Why not add ‘donate blood’ to this list? LIBS encourages all those eligible to make the commitment to donate blood or to schedule a blood drive at their workplace, house of worship, school, or local community organization.

Blood donors must be at least age 16-76 (16 with written parental permission, 76+ with a physician’s note), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in general good health. All donors receive free mini-medical exams on site and information about their temperature, pulse rate, blood pressure and hemoglobin level.
