New York City police are trying to determine the identities of the man and woman who jumped more than 200 feet off the George Washington Bridge Monday morning in an apparent double suicide.
The couple had been seen walking together on the bridge and appeared to be in their mid-30s to early 40s, according to witnesses.
A Port Authority spokesman told the NY Daily News that workers who were on the bridge’s lower level saw “an object” pass by them around 11:20 a.m. When they looked to see what it was they saw the couple floating in the water below.
FDNY and NYPD boats and ambulances responded to the scene and found the couple near 125th street and pulled them out of the Hudson River about an hour later.
CPR was performed on the pair and they were transported in critical condition to St. Luke’s Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
There was no note, car or possessions found on the bridge, according to authorities, who are now trying to figure out the identities of the jumpers.
