The Town of North Hempstead’s spring cleaning effort, Operation Clean Sweep program, will begin on Monday, April 28 and run through Friday, May 9.
“With the toll that this winter season took on our Town roads, this program is more important than ever,” Supervisor Bosworth said. “Our Clean Sweep program will help to return our roads to the condition that our residents deserve.”
During this annual town-wide spring clean-up, approximately 2,000 tons of dirt and debris are removed from the roads each year, with an even higher total expected this year. In addition to sweeping roads, the Town’s Highway Department cleans catch basins, and sweeps handicap ramps during Clean Sweep.
From Monday, April 28 to Friday, May 2, all Town streets in the unincorporated areas south of the Long Island Expressway will be cleaned. In week two, from Monday, May 5 to Friday, May 9, Town streets north of the Long Island Expressway will get their turn.
In order to ensure that every area is thoroughly swept and cleaned, the Highway Department asks that residents refrain from parking their vehicles on the street between 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. during Operation Clean Sweep.
