Want To Play Some Softball?

If you are a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City, age 18 or over, who would like to play softball in one of the recreation department’s softball leagues, call the recreation office at 516-465-4075 to put your name on our player list. Sometimes coaches call looking for extra players to round out their rosters.

Call and leave your name, age, address, and phone number and your name will be kept on file for the team who is looking for extra players.

Over 35 Men’s Softball

Roster packages for the Garden City Recreation and Parks Department’s Men’s Over 35 Softball League are now available. This league plays on Sunday evenings. Rosters will be accepted from teams meeting the following eligibility requirements:

1. Teams must be comprised of residents of the Incorporated Village of Garden City.

2. All players must be over 35 years of age or turning 35 during the season.

The fee for this league is $500, which includes games, balls, and umpires. Application packages can be picked up at the recreation department administrative office at 108 Rockaway Ave. The completed roster package will be accepted until May 16 or until 12 completed packages are received.

No Dogs Allowed

With the spring season sports openers just behind us, the department of recreation and parks would like to remind all residents that dogs (pets) are not allowed in any of the neighborhood parks, Community Park, or St. Paul’s fields. Non–compliance with this rule will result in the issuance of appearance tickets.

Spring Zumba Fitness Program

The following spring Zumba fitness classes for adults will be offered by the department of recreation and parks beginning the week of May 5:

Monday evenings at 7:45 p.m. 4 weeks for $36

Monday mornings at 9:15 a.m. 4 weeks for $36

Saturday mornings at 9:15 a.m. 5 weeks for $45

All classes will be held in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall. Classes are lead by Felicia Lovaglio, director of the dance conservatory and adjunct professor at Adelphi. Each class is 45 minutes long.  

Zumba Gold Fitness For The Active Senior Or Beginner

The spring Zumba Gold fitness classes will be held in St. Paul’s Senior Center on Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. or Thursday afternoons at 2 p.m. Each 45-minute class, teaching the basics of Zumba exercise, is led by certified Zumba fitness instructor Felicia Lovaglio. This class is geared for seniors or the beginner adult. Classes will begin the week of May 5.

Prices are as follows: Monday at 6:30 p.m. Seniors (65 or older)- $20 Others – $36; Thursdays at 2 p.m. Seniors – $25 Others – $45

Registration For The Community Garden Begins

If you are interested in obtaining a plot in Garden City Recreation and Parks’ Community Garden, it is now time to register. Applications will be accepted until May 1. Plots will then be assigned for planting around May 10. If more applications are received than the number of plots available, all applications will be put in a lottery and winners will be notified.

Spring/Summer Adult Tennis Registration Forms Available

The Garden City Recreation Department will conduct evening tennis lessons for adults who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City at the Community Park tennis facility. The lessons will run for one hour each week in three sessions during the spring/summer months. The registrant has a choice of a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday class and a choice of time. There will be a maximum of four players per court. The dates and fees will be as follows:

Session 1 – 8 weeks began April 21 Cost: $240

(Session 1 will also include Ultimate Workout on Saturdays, 1.5 hours at a cost of $240 for seven weeks)

Session 2 – 4 weeks beginning  July 7 Cost: $120

Session 3 – 4 weeks beginning August 4 Cost: $120

To register, a form will need to be filled out and returned with payment to the recreation department’s administrative offices at 108 Rockaway Ave. Please note, a separate check for each session is need at time of registration.

Spring Adult Yoga

Certified yoga instructor Connie McKnight has designed adult yoga classes with all ages in mind. Classes are open to both men and women. Each class in our sessions is one hour long. Any resident of the Incorporated Village of Garden City is invited to join these relaxing classes.  

The course schedule is as follows:

Yoga For All

Mondays at 7:30 p.m. in St. Paul’s Senior Center beginning April 21. (8 weeks due to holidays, $52)   

Intermediate Yoga

Wednesdays at 10:15 a.m. in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall beginning April 9. (10 weeks, $65)

Beginner Yoga

Wednesdays at 9 a.m. in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall beginning April 9. (10 weeks, $65)

Children’s Yoga Classes Announced

Certified yoga instructor Connie McKnight has designed youth yoga classes for ages 6 – 13. Each class in this 8-week session is one hour long. All classes are held at St. Paul’s Senior Center and began the week of April 10. Any resident of the Incorporated Village of Garden City in this age group is invited to join these relaxing classes. The cost of this session will be $72.

The course schedule is as follows:

Ages 6 to 8 Thursdays at 4:15 p.m.

Ages 9 to 13 Thursdays at 5:15 p.m.
