Two people were reportedly shot and killed in Hempstead on Monday afternoon, but few details have been released from Nassau County and Hempstead village police investigating the case.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting at a house on Belmont Parkway shortly after 1 a.m., police said. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to a local hospital, where the second victim died, according to published reports.
Hempstead police referred calls to Nassau police, who neither released the identities of the victims nor a description of the shooter.
CBS News reported that police had the house surrounded for 12 hours while they believed that the suspect was still inside, but when they eventually entered the house, nobody was home.
