Italian Honor Society Induction

Farmingdale High School’s Italian Honor Society will hold a ceremony on May 21, at 5:30 p.m., in the school commons for students entering with honors this year. 

 

Cub Scout Registration

Anyone interested in signing up for Farmingdale Cub Scout Pack 511 can come to the Farmingdale Public Library from 7-8:30 p.m. on May 21. Registration is open to boys in grades 1-5. For more information contact Michele Frontino at 516-694-8616.

Legends of Airpower Weekend

Starting on May 23, the American Airpower Museum at 1230 New Highway in Farmingdale will honor WWII veterans with a special ceremony commemorating the 70th anniversary of D-Day. During the Legends of Airpower Weekend, the Airpower Museum  will be open
10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Saturday, May 24

Bethpage Air Show

From May 24-25, the Bethpage Air Show will be bringing back the world-renowned U.S. Navy Blue Angels, U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, the U.S. Navy Leap Frogs, who are making their second appearance since 2007, and the MV-22 Osprey, which will be performing at the Bethpage Airshow for the first time. Civilian performers include the American Airpower Museum Warbirds, the GEICO Skytypers, Sean D. Tucker with Team Oracle, Lt. Col. John Klatt of the National Guard Reserve, Matt Chapman with Embry Riddle, David Windmiller, the Red Bull Air Force, and the John Klatt Airshows Screamin’ Sasquatch Jet Waco Aerobatic Team, who will also be making their debut at the Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach. The air show will run from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at Jones Beach State Park. Admission is free to the public, $10 for parking. 

 

Adventureland Honors Vets

Adventureland amusement park in Farmingdale will be showing its support for the troops this Memorial Day Weekend, from May 24-26, when active military will get $5 off P.O.P. bracelets when they show their military I.D. 

 

Flagging Veterans Graves

On May 24, the American Legion Post 1711 will begin its Memorial Day service at the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, 2040 Wellwood Ave. at 7 a.m., where they will honor those who served our country. 

Sunday, May 25

Memorial Day Services

On Sunday, American Legion Post 1711 will continue its Memorial Day remembrance ceremonies with a service at 2 p.m. at the Long Island National Cemetery, 2040 Wellwood Ave. in Farmingdale. 

Monday, May 26

Memorial Day Parade

On May 26, the Village of Farmingdale will honor the troops with its annual Memorial Day Parade down Main Street. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the corner of Thomas Powell Blvd. and Yoakum St., and will proceed south down Main St. to the grandstand in front of Village Hall. Tuesday, May 27

PTA Council Installation

On May 27, members of the Farmingdale PTA Council will hold a special dinner to induct new members into its ranks. 

 

South Farmingdale Fire Commissioners

The next meeting of the South Farmingdale Board of Fire Commissioners will be held at 6 p.m. at the fire department, 819 Main St., in Farmingdale.

Wednesday, May 28

Board of Education

The next meeting of the Farmingdale Board of Education will be held on May 28, with a special presentation at the Farmingdale High School Auditoriam at 5:45 p.m. and 7 p.m.

 

Science Research Symposium

On May 28, Farmingdale High School will hold a Science Research Symposium at 3 p.m. in the school library. 

 

Mothers In Touch Prayer Group

On May 28, the Living Faith Christian Church at 25 Hempstead Tpke. in Farmingdale, will be holding a special prayer group at 10:30 a.m. for moms, grandmothers or any other
family member.

French & Spanish Honor Society 

Farmingdale High School’s French and Spanish Honor Societies will hold a ceremony on May 21, at 5:30 p.m., in the school commons for students entering with honors this year.

Friday, May 30 

St. Luke’s Capital Fund Campaign

On May 30, St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church will be having a down home country barbecue at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall and lawn. It will include music, dancing, games, a bonfire, and activities for kids and families. There is no charge for the event, however it is asked that you bring a snack, dessert or salad to share. 

Saturday, May 31

Widows Luncheon

On May 31, the Living Faith Christian Church at 25 Hempstead Tpke. in Farmingdale, will have a special luncheon from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. for widows in Fellowship Hall. 

 

De-Flagging Graves

The American Legion Post 1711 is requesting assistance from the public on May 31 with removing flags at the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, at 2040 Wellwood Ave. Gates open at 7 a.m. 

Sunday, June 1

Strawberry Festival

On June 1, the Farmingdale-Bethpage Historical Society will have its Annual Meeting and Strawberry Festival at the village green on Main Street, from 2-4 p.m. This year’s festival will be held only for FBHS members and their families.
