Earlier this month, The Jack & Dorothy Kupferberg Family Foundation and Tracey Kupferberg were honored at Sid Jacobson JCC’s 11th Annual Friendship Circle Luncheon at the Garden City Hotel.
The foundation and Mrs. Kupferberg, a JCC board member, were recognized for their community leadership. The event was led by Fox 5’s Steve Lacy and raised funds for the JCC’s day programs for those with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and other chronic conditions and their families.
“The Jack & Dorothy Kupferberg Family Foundation is not only honored, but feels it is our obligation and privilege to support many charitable organizations, especially the Friendship Circle and the Sid Jacobson JCC,” Kupferberg said.
The Friendship Circle Luncheon, A Yellow Rose Event, ensures that the JCC can provide critical programs and services to over 120 individuals afflicted with dementia and other chronic conditions every week, while offering support and education to their families and loved ones.
For over 16 years, Sid Jacobson JCC has been a leader in providing comprehensive programming for those with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and other related diseases at any stage or any age. Under the supervision of Connie Wasserman, LCSW, associate executive director, the JCC tailors programs to the full spectrum of individuals with dementia, from cognitive exercises and support groups for those in the early stages to structured day programs for frail individuals suffering from more advanced stages of Alzheimer’s. The programs are directed by a licensed social worker and they are staffed by caring individuals who receive ongoing training working with special populations.
Sid Jacobson JCC’s Let’s Do… Series is the country’s first series of supportive services for individuals in their 30s, 40s and 50s diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Frontotemporal Degeneration and their families. Along with a stimulating day program for those living with the illness, the series provides support and community for their spouses and children.
