The Massapequa Chamber of Commerce Street Fair returns to the area Sunday, June 1 with street vendors, food vendors and all sorts of entertainment for the entire family.

Coming off the Chamber’s first annual fair last year, Chamber President Patricia Orzano said that strong community support for the fundraising event ensures its continued success.

“I would say it was a spectacular success,” she said. “We were blessed with great weather; we had terrific local businesses as sponsors…we probably a one point, during our peak hours, had about 5,000 to 7,000 people attend.”

Orzano said she believes this year will be bigger and better, with even more businesses participating in an effort to bring the Massapequa community together. Orzano said she expects 80 to 100 street and food vendors to participate this year; and 75 percent of those vendors will be businesses local to the Massapequas.

“The Chamber’s mission is to promote and grow the businesses in our community,” she said. “This type of event is perfect for raising a business’ visibility in the community and it is a perfect opportunity for residents to support the people who keep Massapequa vibrant.”

The street fair will run from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. and will stretch down Broadway from Veterans Blvd. to Clark Avenue. Past Chamber president Joe Basile will serve as the Grand Marshal and lead attendees in celebrating all the festivities. Opening ceremonies will commence at 1 p.m. and will feature the Veterans Post honor guard and the National Anthem sung by Massapequan Brooke Elardo. Musical acts at show mobile no. 1 include Time Was, Savannah Sky and Captain Jack, a Billy Joel tribute band.

The street fair will also feature a Community Day at parking field M6, featuring The Originators, the National Anthem sung by Kyle Lee, the South Shore School of Dance, the Unqua School Orchestra, the Rock Underground and many more.

Radio station B103 and the Wiseman will also be on hand, as well as Feats of Magic by John Lepre. Also, classic cars will be on display by Still Cruzen at Michigan Avenue.

Orzano said sponsors include 7-11 Inc., Astoria Federal Savings, Applebee’s and Panera Bread.

“It will be on a Sunday, as that’s typically a family day,” she said. “We’ll have more vendors, more food, more children’s entertainment, and more blow-up rides.”
