North Valley Stream Home Invasion Gunman Gets 55 Years

A Queens man was sentenced Tuesday to 55 years in prison for tying up six victims during a North Valley Stream home invasion that ended in a police shootout and one suspect’s suicide.

Nassau County Judge David Sullivan also sentenced 46-year-old Levy Robinson to five years post-release supervision. Robinson had been convicted of robbery, burglary, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, unlawful imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child.

Prosecutors said Robinson and 36-year-old Timothy Capers, also of Jamaica, forced their way into the victims’ home at gunpoint and tied up six members of a family, including four children ages 3, 5, 9 and 11, on Jan. 16, 2012.

A Nassau County police officer who was first to respond to the victims’ 911 call entered the house, allowing them to escape before the officer and two assailants exchanged gunfire, authorities said.

Capers was later found dead of what medical examiners determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Robinson was found hiding in a back bedroom in the house when he was arrested.

A third man, 25-year-old Varinder Singh of North Valley Stream, was later found to have set up the home invasion. He pleaded to burglary, robbery one criminal possession of a weapon. He was sentenced to seven years in prison last year.
