Girl Scout Troop 3203 recently secured a Silver Award, the highest honor a Cadette Girl Scout can attain.
The girls planted two gardens for the United Cerebral Palsy resident house in Suffolk County. They planted annual and perennial flowers and a few bushes. The first garden is in front of the house, the second is a smaller garden with a wooden border. The girls also added wind chimes, flags and sun catchers to the gardens.
They also built a bench, which they placed in a shaded area in front of the bushes they planted, for workers and visitors to enjoy.
Bird houses and feeders were placed in the backyard to draw birds. Scouts Mia Bonventre, Rachel Keichline, Katelyn Rodriguez and Erica Walch wanted to make the house a more cheerful place to visit.
Liana Rosenthal is also a member of Troop 3203 and she earned her individual Silver Award by helping kids from her school. Rosenthal is a member of the tutoring program at Mattlin Middle School. After school, she helps kids with their homework or any other work they do not understand. She hopes to continue helping out through library and school programs.
