Hempstead Shooting Leaves Man Dead

A 26-year-old man was found shot to death in Hempstead over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, Nassau County police said.

Hempstead village police officers responded to a report of gunshots fired on Princeton Street near the corner of Bennett Avenue and upon arrival, they found Shawn T. Boone in a vehicle with a bullet wound at 1:20 a.m. Saturday, police said three days later in a news release.

Boone was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The shooting occurred about three blocks from where a 16-year-old Westbury boy was gunned down two months ago following a double murder in the village that month.

Homicide Squad detectives are continuing the investigations.

Detectives ask anyone with information about this incident to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.  All callers will remain anonymous.
