Students and staff at Syosset High School recently worked together to decorate the main hallway with blue balloons, posters and puzzle pieces, the symbol for autism awareness. The school’s student government developed the idea, forming an autism awareness committee to facilitate the event.
Under the advisement of special education teachers Debbi Hunter and Dale Iovine and Assistant Director of Pupil Personnel Mary-Lou Sapienza, members of the committee –senior Natalie Mathes and sophomores Ashley Allegretti, Brooke Bolnick, Kyra Caracciolo, Alyssa Casale and Brooke Koeppel, and special education classes – encouraged students throughout the school to wear blue to support the cause.
