Thanks to a recent volunteer effort in partnership with United Way of Long Island, Purolator International was able to help refurbish the greenhouse and surrounding area on their visit to AHRC Nassau’s Brookville campus.

On June 21st, Purolator International participated in the annual United Way’s “National Day of Caring.” As one of United Way of Long Island’s leading corporate partners, Purolator employees and their families worked to restore the fountains and surrounding garden areas and paint the historic greenhouses that support the program.

John Costanzo, Purolator International President and United Way of Long Island Board Member commented, “This type of project fulfills the important piece of our values that involves giving back to the community.”

The AHRC greenhouse and the surrounding areas are a favorite spot for students and widely used in AHRC Nassau’s programs. The Freeport Vocational Training Center’s landscaping crew assists the greenhouse horticulturalists in transplanting and maintaining spring crops grown throughout the year.

United Way of Long Island, a community partner of AHRC Nassau, recognizes their “National Day of Caring” each year on the first day of summer. Previously, United Way of Long Island provided a $10,000 grant to AHRC Nassau to fund their organic garden, located next to the greenhouse.
