The high end luxury sleep furnishings retailer, Duxiana, at 1522 Northern Blvd. experienced a jarring wake up call one Monday night in late June.

Store owner, Joan LaPallo received a phone call urgently summoning her come to the store because her alarm was going off on Monday evening, June 30 at around 6:30 p.m.

When she arrived, she found an Emergency Medical Services vehicle had swerved in the front of the store and a black Mercedes passenger car in the middle of Northern Boulevard. Traffic at the scene closed three lanes of traffic on Northern Boulevard causing extensive delays.

LaPallo was just happy that no one was hurt. From the scene, you can see the skid marks of the EMS vehicle as it careened across the pedestrian sidewalk hitting the steel enforced planter moving it several feet. Upon inspection, the store front damage was to the marble facade and the glass windows shattered. The extent of the damage of the facade goes across the front entrance.

“This can be repaired and will be, but in the meantime, the store is open for business” says LaPallo. Because of the damage, the front of the shop will be boarded up for a few weeks, but LaPallo wants everyone to know “we will be open for business.”

Duxiana store hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 12 to 5 p.m. The store is closed Mondays.
