Seniors at Syosset High School had the unique opportunity recently to celebrate their final days at the school while learning important lessons that will be central as they embark onto college and beyond during the annual Senior Day in June. Throughout the day, seniors attended various workshops pertaining to the transition into college, met with their guidance counselors for the last time, listened to a guest speaker and were able to sign yearbooks.
Workshops covered a variety of topics that will be important to the graduating students when they begin college next year, including information about fraternities and sororities, social life, study abroad, roommate conflicts, being a student athlete, managing time and stress and keeping a healthy diet, among others. All workshops were led by members of the faculty who have knowledge on the subject area.
Steve Chassman from Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence served as the guest speaker this year, discussing the negative effects of substance abuse and making safe decisions on prom weekend.
