A project that would remediate flood issues at South 14th Street and 6th Avenue in New Hyde Park has yet to go out to bid. The plan also includes repaving the Village Hall parking lot.
“We’re working with our engineers to get that done,” Mayor Robert Lofaro said. “The parking lot at Village Hall, that bid has not gone out yet either. We will be going out to bid on a requirements contract to replace the current contract that’s currently expired.”
Village officials say its engineers, Dvirka & Bartilucci, are in the final pre-bid stages and will be soliciting prospective contractors in August.
“Our engineers are still working everything out,” Lofaro said. “We’ll know more in a few weeks. We’d hope to get it started in September and finished in October. That is certainly our hope for this plan.”
Then-Senator Craig Johnson secured a $150,000 grant when he was in office for the project. The money was restored by current Senator Jack Martins after grants secured by Johnson were eliminated after Johnson’s loss to Martins in the 2010 election.
“If we had the grant money from the start, it might have been different,” said Lofaro.
