With Our Lady of Mercy’s close proximity to Plainview, it is no surprise that plenty of local residents found their way to a fair on the school’s grounds recently.
Among the many Plainview people that made their way to the school on South Oyster Bay Road were Alanna Savino, Emma Cohen, Connor Savino, Colleen Mack-Savino and Michael Savino, who all walked the red on their way to enjoying some great food and rides.
Fun and games were also had by Plainview residents Amber Makda, Sara Naqui, Bhashta Khail, Michelle Sarwary and Remy Wadhwani.
Our Lady of Mercy Church hosted their summer fair July 30 through Aug. 3, drawing people from all over Long Island.
This is the seventh year the church has put on the fair, which has grown to become one of the largest on Long Island. This year, over 14,400 people attended over five nights.
New to the fair this year was the petting zoo, where attendees got to see and pet sheep, lambs and other animals. Like in previous years, attendees also enjoyed casino games in the OLM gym and classic fair rides. Some won stuffed animals at one of the many carnival games, while others enjoyed zeppolis, hot dogs, cannolis and other food while listening to live music from bands such as Britishmania, the Teensations and Paul Effman Jazz band.
And though dark clouds and the threat of rain was a worry on Saturday, everything cleared up in time.
“It was an outstanding fair. We had many people coming all five nights. We did wonderful this year,” said finance manager Carmine Serravalli. “We were able to dodge the weather and everything went well. The rain didn’t stop us at all. We were prepared and everything went great.”
