Students welcomed back to school on Sept. 2
All seven buildings have been made ready for the arrival of nearly 4,000 K-12 students on the first day of school—Tuesday, Sept 2. The board of education and administration wishes each and every Garden City student a successful 2014-15 school year,
Over the summer break, many district-wide facility projects were completed. These include a variety of projects made possible through funds in this year’s voter-approved budget.
The completion of the final Bond and Energy Performance Contract (EPC) punch list items, building management system projects that dovetail the new heating and cooling systems with the mechanical and web-based controls to maximize efficiency, is imminent. Allocated capital funds were utilized for the purchase and installation of new auditorium seating and carpeting at Stewart and Stratford. Fifty new doors are being installed at Stratford. Upgrades to the schools’ security systems that include the installation of new classroom door locks and additional cameras are part of this year’s district-wide security initiative. New exterior math wing walkways were installed at the high school, and the tennis court surfaces were repaired. The middle school Home and Careers rooms were refurbished, including new drop ceilings and lighting, and new cabinets. The hallway floor tiles at Homestead were replaced, Stratford and Stewart will receive new school signs, and Hemlock and Locust are scheduled to receive supplemental exterior lighting.
